This one is GMRS but they also offer a 440 version in the ham bands.
What app are you using to run that widget on the left of your screen
Conky
The RigExpert Pro is a phenomenal analyzer. The NanoVNA does a decent job, but from the standpoint of visibility and ease of use, the NanoVNA is down at the bottom of my list. I am curious about the spectrum analyzer that’s similar form facton
Awesome. Great idea!
Thus helped with a couple of things I was trying to do! Thanks! I had some issues with the dotnet install (it hung overnight) but I ran it a couple of times and it seems to be working good.
Found a Pi Zero 2 W with header. But in looking at the build notes I see pick apart foam. What are we suppose to do with that ?
I used the foam when mounting the components in a case.
Does anyone has a source for a Pi Zero 2W with the header. Amazon is out. But they do have a Pi Zero W with the header. Would that work ?
Jason, why not add some print, "waiting for Sound Card connection" during the while loop for soundcard?
One could do that and it would be helpful. In my case though, it runs completely headless once the build is complete.
Good descriptions of what, how, and why you are using the commands. I use your videos, and those from other YT contributors, to learn about Linux. I am a long-time MS-DOS (since MS-DOS 1.0) and Windows user, but Windows 11 has STRONGLY driven me to convert to Linux. Now about 90% there. I have a few Win programs that do not have Linux counterparts, so I am learning to use Wine for them. I have several Pi Zero W's laying around and I love messing around with APRS, so now I will see if they still work.
While doing this it told me that that driver was obsolete and it started running rtw88....so i am assuming the rest goea the same except use rtw88 in place of rtl8723du....hope this works
The old driver will still work as of June 2024. I just installed it the other day on an Evolve
Do I need to install HamClock web server version rather than the usual display version?
I used the regular display version for build since I already had it up and running.
This is the repeater my deer camp group is looking to purchase. What kind of range were you getting with using the HT inside the vehicle? We only need to cover a 5 mile radius max, but terrain makes it hard for us to use HTs without a relay person at the cabin.
The range will depend on the antenna height more than anything else. You will need to do some test to see how high you will need the antenna to cover your specific area as it will probably be very different than my area.
Jason I'm trying to load this on a Pi Zero 2W. I've followed your instruction to the letter and everything seems to work perfectly right up to the point where I entered ,/hamclock-fb0. I have tried that with and without sudo and in either case when I hit enter I simply get another command prompt. It never runs ham clock and no setup screen. I have even gone so far as to rebuild my SD card from scratch and I still get the exact same result. I can confirm that I am in the ESPHamClock directory at the time I enter that command. And doing a listing shows that there is a hamclock-fb0 file present. What would you suggest.
Would love to see more videos in this series if you end up having some additional information you'd like to give us.
If you havent run into this problem yet let me put it out there. On the side tabs if you change them that most of us will. You have to be aware that when clicking on those tabs at will open whatever shortcut you put there on an internal webpage inside the dashboard like in a . Not many websites will let you do that so you will either get an error that the page cant open or if it opens it will be completely out of proportion. I had to modified this so whatever I put on the tabs open in a separate tab on the browser. That way it works. Customization is a bit restricted as I wanted to get rid of the tabs and I broke the dashboard. Still working on it. Also wanted to use the tab to just open another instance of dashboard to have more windows but so far haven't been able to get it to work but only been working on it on and off so soon I will hopefully get some results. Dont take me wrong great project and works well if you don't modify it much except just the images.
Would love to see a full video on install and its use .. im considering one for my roof
how does one start the central server? I used pip install (linux mint, python 3.10.12) I have fdlogger and it works fine stand alone.
Challenge accepted
Thank you Jason. I did almost all of that myself but some tips were invaluable: using serial/by-id, and setting the index on the usb card!
hey ARRL, How about fixing LOTW?
Great video. I've recommended it to my local HR Club. Ernie KC1LKB
I think I said it before, but I'll say it again.. I love how you actually explain what each command does. As someone trying to learn more about linux, this is apricated ! Another great tutorial, and that digirig lite looks slick! Thanks Jason !
Check out the companion video in the description which helps you build the auto start. I go into great detail as to what each step does in the script.
Perfect, I actually need to do that to my Igate.
This is a timely video. I was just looking at the production version of the digitig lite and wondering if i could use it for aprs. Thanks!
@KM4ACK I don't know if you looked at your mail chip website lately, but there is NO area to put my email address!!!!!!!!!!!! "Just enter your email address below" OK? WHERE? NO TYPING AREA!
I just followed this link mailchi.mp/40da1fe472e3/km4acknewsletter from the description and it shows a box to enter the email address and a subscribe button below. Is that the link you used?
As my only opportunitys to operate HF, and I've just finishing up my basic portable HF station build(Radio case has a G90 for HF, and a TK-780 for VHF), although I'd hoped to have more done, but my Jeep decided it needed 5wks of my time to swap the engine out. I'd hoped to have a digital box built out, and a TK-7180 phone/APRS radio setup, using a Raspberry pi, a Signalink, and a custom cable, connecting the DB-25 port on the back of the TK-7180 to the Signalink. Unfortunately, even though I've been on vacation this week, My progress, beyond putting the final touches on the radio box, was to build 20m, 40m, and 80m dipoles, and get the 20m and 40m tuned in an inverted V configuration. I'll be heading out early tomorrow, and picking up a 22' paint pole from Lowes for my mast, if I do go, as the fiberglass tall/skinny banner poles from in front of car dealerships(what I used in the tuning setup, and what I use for my dining fly setup when I go camping) are too flimsy for the task.
Awesome. Thank you
Thank you for finishing the tracker so quickly, now is it possible to take this tracker transmitter to the next level ?
That looks cool thanks
Should this be in a user crontab or in the root crontab?
user crontab
Excellent tutorial. Would you be happy and willing to do a new updated Video on a Digipeater Build like this video but not as a Tracker? 73
The only real difference is how the beacon is sent and the digipeat line. Instead of the TBEACON, you would want to use a PBEACON as described in this video ruclips.net/video/kluL1atBtWw/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=467 and set turn on the digipeat option shown in the same video here ruclips.net/video/kluL1atBtWw/видео.htmlfeature=shared&t=745 You could also remove the GPSD line in the config file if you aren't using GPS which usually isn't required for a digipeater. The auto start script in this video would still work but leave out the piece of the script that checks for GPS if in fact you aren't using one.
Oh, and don't forget that if you followed the build tutorial for the tracker, you still have the original direwolf.conf file that we saved as a backup during the build. You can always use it for reference.
Ran into a 'bug' / issue: Had to set "USBAUTO=false" in /etc/default/gpsd and "PTT /dev/ttyUSB0 RTS" in direwolf.conf to get a regular DigiRig v1.9 to work, otherwise awesome presentation as always, sir...
Interesting!! I have run into that before with Icom radios. I was using the digirig lite which doesn't use RTS for PTT so that might have been the difference and why I didn't have the issue in this build.
Awesome. Between the first video and this one, I am up and running. Crazy, I actually had all of the pieces/parts laying around. I do enjoy your builds. Always learn more every time. 73
That's fantastic!! Glad you got it up and running 👊👍
An amazing amount of work! Thanks for helping us along!
Thanks TO
I have used screen before. How do tmux and screen compare?
For the most part, either is fine. I just find myself working more with tmux lately.
Bullseye > Bookworm
Actually I choose Bullseye for this project. Bullseye can still be downloaded
Sorry, I totally think I misread your comment. Ignore previous reply :-)
I would be curious to see your tracker in it's final form. N7ARO
Great presentation! I was looking for a dedicated APRS system for my Jeep so I would not have to tie up a sub-band on my FTM-400. I think this is better than re-purposing a Motorola radio. Thanks!
I think voice alert could come in very handy for knowing when your buddies within Simplex range fire up their radios color and are sending out a beacon every few minutes.
Lost me at "3d printer"
In theory anything that labeled a sound card will work. Like a Scarlett solo. Correct
Have a similar setup, but one thing to note about the phone. Even if not activated, all cellphones should be able to call 911. We used to collect old cellphones to give out to victims of domestic abuse, etc. in case an emergency came up (e.g., abuser violating court orders). Never needed to activate them for this need.
ARRL Field day? I guess using the LoTW? 😂. Wonder how the awards are going to work…
Gives me a good reason to figure out how to use GPS with Winlink on Winlink Express and RadioMail for iOS. That is supposing that RadioMail position reports are compatible.
Thanks for doing this again, I'm hoping to participate.
Cool idea, we'll be joining in.
anyone knows how can I send a nearby station request in WoAD? thanks 73 KP4MI
Don't think WoAD has the catalog feature but you can do it manually. Send message to INQUIRY Subject - REQUEST. In the body of the email, put: WL2K_NEARBY Send the message and then wait 4-5 minutes. Make another winlink connection and the request should be returned.
I am so glad I subscribed to your channel. For the simple fact I thought Field Day was "The last weekend of June". We even booked a camping trip for it 400 miles from home. Well, it looks like my trip will be for camping and not Field Day. I will still use emergency power for the 1E that I would have used. WTX instead of STX. -100 bonus points for not being "Outdoors". Oh well! Adapt and Overcome!!! At least I know it is this weekend. Imagine not knowing and showing up to a party that was held a week prior. LOL!!! 73!!!
I also thought it was "the last weekend in June." Sneaked up on us this year.
Anyone know how to do this in Winlink Express in Windows? He's says you can but I can't find it. I can send the position report but can't find the nearby stations request.
Here's an old video but should point you in the right direction - ruclips.net/video/PAawno3mO5E/видео.htmlfeature=shared
Perfect, it's an old video but still exactly accurate on how to do it. Thanks!
Sounds like a fun challenge. Would this also count for a message for points?
Not sure about that one. I just do this for fun.
